Chapter 29: My Head
The journey ahead was peaceful, and the Stretching Ghost didn't appear again. Chu Jiang also arrived safely at his destination - Linjiang Hotel.
Chu Jiang paid the driver through his phone, wishing him a safe journey.
However, the driver seemed distracted and only nodded before driving back.
Looking at the small hotel in front of him, which was only four stories high and seemed a bit old, Chu Jiang carried his backpack and intended to go in to book a room directly.
However, as he was about to reach the glass door, he suddenly frowned, feeling that he had forgotten something. "What was I supposed to... do?"
While Chu Jiang was pondering and trying to remember, the ride-hailing driver was rushing back to the location of the previous accident.
He looked very anxious, but it wasn't the kind of anxiety one would feel from waiting for the police too long. Instead, it was more like something important had been lost, and he couldn't wait to find it.
On the way, they went through several red lights and finally returned to the quiet road.
The driver immediately opened the door, got out of the car, and hurriedly entered the green area to search.
In no time, the driver successfully found a highly decomposed dead person's head.
At this moment, the dead person's head looked intact, but it seemed even more creepy than before. Its empty eye sockets seemed to be staring fixedly at the driver's eyes.
Strangely, the driver didn't show any sign of fear at this moment. He just picked up the head with his hands and took a deep breath.
The driver murmured to himself, "I came out to earn some extra money, almost lost my head. This would be a hilarious story to tell."
After saying that, he took off his own head with his left hand and casually threw it on the ground; then, with his other hand, he pressed the dead person's head against his own neck.
In this process, the driver's head was as easy to detach as any object, with no effort and no blood splattering.
When he put on the dead person's head, it felt completely natural, without any discomfort.
The dead person's head turned around on top of the driver's head, as if it was getting used to its new body. Its mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out. No one knew what it was saying.
As for the driver's original head on the ground, there was still a hint of joy, relief, and contentment on his face. It seemed like he didn't even realize he was dead. He only felt happy, like finding a lost treasure.
And so, with the driver having a dead person's head, he walked briskly out of the green area, got into the car, closed the door, started the ignition, and drove back home with skill.
What was even more bizarre was that something strange happened during this process.
The level of decay in the dead person's head kept decreasing. When the driver first got into the car, the flesh on his facial features was still quite intact, but it still looked frightening.
But as he drove a distance, the dead person's head had completely transformed into a living person's head.
The most incredible thing was that the living person's head that the dead person's head transformed into looked exactly the same as the driver's original head, right down to the length of the hair.
The driver turned on the car's music and hummed a tune. At this moment, his voice could be heard normally.
As for the matter of reporting to the police, the driver seemed to have forgotten all about it. He only had one thing on his mind, driving back home...
--------------------------------
Master! Stop the car, please!
The slightly overweight taxi driver looked at Chu Jiang strangely, but still parked the car on the side of the road, saying "What's wrong?"
Chu Jiang furrowed his brow tightly, he tapped his own head and said, "What was I going to do...?"
The driver looked up and down at this young guy, who looked very energetic, and didn't seem to have a problem with his head at all.
Weren't you saying that you lost something and wanted to go back to find it?
"The driver's words confused Chu Jiang even more. He checked his backpack, then checked his pockets, and realized that he hadn't lost anything."
But I didn't lose anything. Did I say I lost something just now?
"But I didn't lose anything, did I? Did I just say that I lost something?"
The fat driver shook his head, "You said it's something very important and you even said you'll pay more to make me drive faster. You didn't forget all that, did you?"
Chu Jiang thought for a moment and realized it was true, "I didn't forget, I just... suddenly remembered that I didn't lose anything."
This made the driver look at Chu Jiang strangely, "Are you trying to cheat me? My meter keeps track of everything." He pointed to the meter in the car that showed the red numbers jumping.
"Let me pay now, and please take me back to Linjiang Hotel," Chu Jiang relaxed his forehead and said with a smile.
Although he thought this young man was a bit strange, the fat driver didn't say anything when he saw that Chu Jiang paid quickly. He turned the car around and drove Chu Jiang back.
Throughout this process, Chu Jiang kept his head down, biting his fingernails and deep in thought.
Something's not right... something is very wrong!
What happened? Why do I feel like I've been possessed?
After snapping out of it, Chu Jiang realized how terrifying the incident that just happened to him was.
He suddenly felt confused for no reason and wanted to go back to find something, even hurriedly stopping a taxi by the roadside.
However, halfway through the return journey, Chu Jiang suddenly snapped out of that trance-like state, to the point where he couldn't quite understand his own actions for a short time.
It was very likely that he was influenced by a ghost...
When did it start? Was it because of that Stretching Ghost?
Did he have direct physical contact with it, causing the ghost to implant a psychological suggestion in him?
The more Chu Jiang thought about it, the more worried he became. Would he suddenly enter that inexplicable state again? This could be a huge danger, even making him feel a serious threat to his life.
Wait, something's not right!
Chu Jiang remembered a detail – after the rideshare driver dropped him off, he seemed a bit restless and drove back rather quickly.
At that time, Chu Jiang didn't suspect anything, he just thought maybe the driver wanted to go back to record a statement.
Now think about it, did the driver also enter the same state as me? But he never had any contact with the ghost head, right?
Thinking about this, Chu Jiang immediately dialed the driver's phone number.
Previously, when the other party came to pick him up at the station, they had a phone conversation.
The phone was answered in a short while, "Hello."
