Chapter 5
Lu Jia's bedroom was on the fourth floor, which wasn't a big effort, but because she was supporting someone, Su Mo's pace slowed down.
When she reached the second floor while supporting Lu Jia, the screams started to rise one after another. The sound mixed with chaotic roars, and Su Mo couldn't believe it was just normal play anymore.
She saw someone rushing out from the dorm room, fear evident in their eyes. Although she didn't know what had happened, her first instinct was to leave quickly.
But as soon as she turned around, someone was charging towards her from the stairs.
That gasping, that face, under the light of the stairs, looked terrifying.
She had no choice but to support the person at her side and continue forward.
The number of people behind the stairs gradually increased, or rather, the number of monsters gradually increased. The person beside her, because of the sudden acceleration, became displeased and started making noise. And this noise seemed to be the best stimulus for the monsters behind them.
They screamed as the two of them chased each other closely.
Fortunately, even though there were many of them, their steps were not fast. However, Su Mo was feeling nervous and there was someone restless, so her steps were not running fast.
Besides the monsters behind her, each floor was restless. From the second floor to the third floor, even though it was a short distance, at this moment it felt like she was separated by thousands of kilometers.
Su Mo regretted, if only she could walk faster, maybe she wouldn't have encountered these monsters, or if she wasn't in a hurry to bring Lu Jia back, maybe...
But there were no maybes.
The person in front of her blocked her path, the only thing she could do was kick these people away, at least to let Lu Jia go out safely and stay alive.
She kicked the person in front of her, she ran up, her foot was tightly grabbed by a hand, and inertia made her fall down directly.
Lu Jia relied on her to stand, the only thing she could do was let the person fall on top of her.
As the whole person fell on the stairs, the originally protruding steps hit Su Mo's back as if directly hitting a knife, as if the knife had penetrated into her bones.
Tears fell uncontrollably due to the pain.
Her ears were buzzing, her head felt empty, and the light in front of her became blurry. She looked down and saw a crowd of people.
"Uh-oh."
She felt a sharp pain in her legs, which woke up Su Mo's mind.
Looking at the person named Lu Jia on her body, she tried her best to kick away the person holding her legs. The leg that was held tightly bled because of the nails that had previously dug into it.
The pain from behind made Su Mo feel like she had broken several bones from the fall.
Helping Lu Jia up, it seemed like the intoxicated person had calmed down a lot, but in reality, they had fallen asleep.
Walking up, each step felt like stepping on steel nails. The white dress inside had already become soaked and only a chill remained.
"Ahem."
As they were walking, Su Mo suddenly coughed. Something in her throat had a fishy taste and quickly filled her whole mouth.
With their feet stepping on the spit-out blood, there was no room for thinking about anything else now.
They continued to climb upwards without any other thought.
***********************************************************************************
Lu Jia untangled the Ethernet cable and finally managed to pull out the tight knot that had been holding it together, with a burst of effort.
"Too much."
Before she could even say the words "all done," her hand stiffened along with her body in an instant.
That kind of gasping, she had felt it before on the two zombies she wanted to eat.
Because they were so close, she could even feel Su Mo approaching clearly.
Feeling Su Mo getting closer and closer, she instinctively held her breath, and as a result, Su Mo's movements and voice seemed clearer, even though she couldn't see what was behind her.
For Su Mo, the food in front of her was delicious and mouthwatering, and she couldn't wait to have a hearty meal.
As an instinct-driven zombie, she should have pounced on Lu Jia and gorged herself a long time ago.
"Su Mo"
This voice echoed in her mind, and it instantly transformed her originally gray eyes into black, but only for a brief second.
Sensing someone behind her who was flushing and breathless from desire, she dared to start breathing. Perhaps if it had been a bit later, without Su Mo doing anything, Lu Jia would have taken care of herself through breath-holding.
Slowly pulling away, feeling Su Mo's lack of movement, Lu Jia's speed of pulling away increased.
Soon she sat up straight, looking at the Su Mo in front of her. Su Mo was still in a bent position, and in this moment, Lu Jia was certain that Su Mo had feelings for her. She just didn't know why Su Mo ultimately didn't make a move.
Under her gaze, Su Mo gradually straightened up. In the moment when she was stared at by Su Mo's gray eyes, Lu Jia's breath hitched for a moment. But it didn't last long because Su Mo turned away, not looking at her anymore.
This action made Lu Jia confused.
Even when she got up, Su Mo remained still, obediently turned her back to her.
For some reason, perhaps Lu Jia herself needed some sorting out, she walked towards Su Mo with determination, completely forgetting that she was just food to the zombies before.
She went around the wires and walked up to Su Mo, looking at her, but Su Mo turned her head away again as soon as she saw her.
Lu Jia never believed that she could fully understand Su Mo, but when she saw Su Mo acting like this, she couldn't help but think that Su Mo didn't want to see her because of the incident where she almost treated her as food.
At this moment, Su Mo's profile was facing her, revealing her intact half of the face.
Despite being stained with blood, it still had the power to captivate people.
Su Mo has always been unattainable, whether in high school or university.
Lu Jia was able to establish a connection with her, probably because they both held the top positions in different subjects, and that inexplicably made them objects of comparison.
Lu Jia lost her parents a long time ago. She was able to study because of the money her dad left her. However, her uncle deducted nearly half of it.
She studied hard in order to receive a scholarship and also to have a better chance at applying for financial aid. Good students always have some advantages when applying for financial aid, so to some extent, Lu Jia was looking out for herself.
Lu Jia didn't want too much attention from others. She preferred to be alone and only have a few friends she could talk to. Compared to Su Mo, she was unnoticed and she preferred to remain unknown.
Given this, Lu Jia seemed incomparable to Su Mo. But when did she start seeing Su Mo as her archenemy?
Lu Jia herself was unclear about this question. Maybe it was because there were too many people comparing them and she always came up short compared to Su Mo. So she developed a rebellious mindset. Or maybe it was because she thought she could get away from Su Mo, but Su Mo ended up going to the same university as her.
In her opinion, with Su Mo's grades, she could have gone to a better university without affecting Lu Jia's college life.
But Su Mo didn't fulfill her wishes. It was because of Su Mo's arrival that Lu Jia's life was no different from high school.
Coming from the same high school, receiving full scholarships, and both occupying the top positions in their respective majors, naturally they became the topic of discussion on campus.
As for the differences between the two, their majors were already different, so comparing their grades wasn't fair. And when it came to looks, Lu Jia never won against Su Mo.
If it's just about her looks, then it's fine, after all, it's something her parents gave her. Moreover, she's actually not bad-looking. Otherwise, she wouldn't have become the subject of discussion on the school's beauty list.
The reason why Su Mo was able to defeat her lies in their personalities. Su Mo's cold demeanor has attracted numerous admirers and has been an ongoing challenge for Lu Jia.
How should I put it, Lu Jia is just as people describe her, more like someone suited for a small home, with a touch of pettiness.
Lu Jia always wondered what it meant to be "petty." Could Su Mo's icy face really have such an impact?
The so-called "grandeur" is just an unattainable illusion. They labeled Su Mo with a hat that everyone could accept.
But that would be too fake, and she doesn't like that. Besides, she always felt that getting close to Su Mo wouldn't be a good thing, so she chose to avoid her.
But now... things have changed.
She reached out towards Su Mo's waist, her hand wrapping around the tangled wire. She pulled three times to remove the wire entangled around Su Mo.
With the wire removed, the wound on Su Mo's stomach became more apparent. Lu Jia looked at it and realized that even a slight touch would cause her pain. The wire had left a wound about the width of a pinky finger—a pain that Lu Jia herself would not have been able to endure.
She threw the cable in her hand and looked at Su Mo, feeling some emotions for a moment, "You can't feel these now, maybe it's a good thing."
At least it won't hurt.
After her words, Su Mo glanced at her, but quickly looked away again.
Lu Jia looked at Su Mo's state, feeling a bit irritated for some unknown reason, and asked, "Su Mo, why are you afraid to look at me?"
Su Mo didn't react, tilting her head further, giving the illusion that it was about to fall off.
Su Mo saw a fair arm appearing in front of her mouth, it was Lu Jia's arm, carrying a human scent.
Su Mo looked at it, salivating in her mouth, then stubbornly lowered her head and ignored this tempting thing with its fresh meat aroma.
Lu Jia didn't expect herself to be so impulsive, nor did she know where the courage came from to dare to reach out to the predator. So, before Su Mo lowered her head, Lu Jia felt anxious, only she knew it.
"You actually don't want to eat me, so don't worry."
Su Mo didn't really understand what she was saying. For Su Mo, the food in front of her just felt strange. It made her look up even if she didn't know what it was.
Su Mo didn't want to eat the food. It was just her instinct telling her that she couldn't eat the food in front of her.
Seeing Su Mo look up, Lu Jia smiled and reached out to touch Su Mo's head. "Don't move, I'll find some gauze for you."
Lu Jia's dormitory was a mixed dorm, with four people from different colleges. One of them was Cheng Du from the sports college. She was good at martial arts and had won several awards in the city.
She remembered that Cheng Du had accidentally injured her hand before, so she had brought a lot of gauze herself. She had even helped change the bandages before.
